Hi!

 

The bot is getting a VERY MUCH needed upgrade.    Well... technically, my PC is getting a very much needed upgrade and my current computer is becoming the new and improved bot Thankfully it does not need to zone anywhere.

 

Anyway... I need to take it down for awhile to reinstall windows - probably sometime in the next 24 - 48 hours.

 

When I take it down, I will be out of commission too for a few hours, assuming all goes well.

So I plugged my hard drive in the bots new home and booted it up (to make sure it had power and I hadent borked anything up). It has Windows 8.

 

Should I be worried that it installed all drivers on its own and is apparently working just fine? I thought anytime you replaced a MB + CPU, you had to format

You don't need to format, like ever.

 

You do need to uninstall Windows 8.

Bot PC has Windows 8 cause I was curious. It was a bad choice. But i cant bring myself to buy another copy of Windows 7 and I hate bootleg Windows.

Actually, Ive expierenced something different. My other PC when I went from AMD to Intel. It wouldnt boot without a full format.

Repair install imo.

 

I'd probably go with Linux for a bot-server.

Id be good with that. I need to figure out why it sounds like a herd of elephants in tap shoes first. I didnt notice until there was an absence of noise. Fans may be old.

Will you help me when its time? Ive been out of that realm for 10 yrs

Edit: Im not opposed to using it for other things too, if theres something i can host

Ubuntu is great for basically everything but the games we play.  I actually prefer it to Windows for general desktop usage.
